The Montpellier School of Dentistry had the honor of welcoming Kōichi Tanaka, winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, on the occasion of his appointment as an honorary doctorate recipient at the University of Montpellier.
This distinction, supported by Prof. Jean-Cédric Durand, dean of the School of Dentistry, and Prof. Christophe Hirtz, director of the Clinical Proteomics Platform, recognizes an exceptional scientific career.
The work conducted by Kōichi Tanaka at SHIMADZU Corporation, which led to the development of MALDI technology, has revolutionized the analysis of biomolecules and is now paving the way for increasingly personalized medicine, particularly through the identification of biomarkers.
The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, in the presence of Hiroshi Kitagawa, Consul General of Japan in Marseille, as well as Anne Ferrer, Executive Director of the Montpellier University Hospital, and numerous academic, scientific, and industrial partners.
